SERLBY PARK ACADEMY DONCASTER

Providing students with the right environment can greatly enhance their learning experience – this is even more important when it is an education facility where they can potentially spend the greatest part of their developing years.

The school was commissioned alongside six others as part of the Nottinghamshire the batch of Priority for Schools Build Programme – representing an investment of £44 million.

Working with Main Contractor Kier Education, EOS provided the structural framing systems for Serlby Park Academy – an all-through school for 3-19 year old students, serving the twin villages of Bircotes and Harworth in Doncaster, North Nottinghamshire.

DESIGN AND CONSTRUCTION

The long-awaited funding will create a new state-of-the-art building housing all pupils on one purpose-built site. The build of the school comprises the erection of a three storey replacement school, new external sports provision, including relocated tennis courts, car parking, cycle parking, lighting and CCTV, alteration to pedestrian access and landscaping with reuse of existing weld mesh security fence and 2.4m high new weld mesh security fencing.

EOS INVOLVEMENT

With the steel frame covering approximately one third of the footprint of the new building. EOS provided the school with jambs, cills, lintels together with parapets with bespoke and standard base plates in 150mm and 200mm sections – all preassembled at the EOS state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in County Durham.

A close working relationship with the project delivery team not only minimised the risk of onsite issues, but also ensured the scheme was delivered to a high standard. Toolbox talks were provided to the installation team at B-in-Line by EOS Technical Sales Manager and consequently no remedial works have been required. Full onsite assistance and quality assurance was also provided throughout.

The design and build of Serlby Academy was constrained to a tight build programme, with the Government providing a deadline for all seven schools delivered no later than 2017. To ensure the school was built on time, EOS guaranteed the structural framing systems were value engineered and erected ahead of schedule.

POSITIVE OUTCOMES

EOS  are pleased to have played a part in the construction of this vital facility. Once completed, Serlby Academy will provide the students and staff with a first class learning centre for years to come. Paul Hirst, the chairman of the school’s governors, said of the build: “This represents a great investment in the future of our school and our community.”
